You've got it right. I'm really interpreting his character from that exact point of view.
Yusuke is so much fun. I always loved his wisecracks in the anime. The only one that really comes to mind was when he told Koenma that "You can't die just yet; you just finished teething." after the squirt took out his pacifier and was going to blow it up.
